The question that arises after the decision on Article 2 of the Voting Rights Act is: what are we going to do about it?
Senator Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) highlighted the problem on NBC’s Meet The Press:
Remember, a corrupt shadow hangs over the Supreme Court. Some of these same members who vote on decisions like this accept gifts from billionaires. We have campervans, lavish vacations. This is a corrupt court. The highest court in the land has the lowest ethical laws. Second, the Supreme Court clearly has the power — I sponsored one of these bills with Senator Whitehouse and others — to limit the terms of office of members of the Supreme Court.
This could go a long way in curing this problem. The Supreme Court is in desperate need of reform. This is a corrupt court. And in my opinion, this is a court that needs reform. And I will continue to lead on these things.
Booker also spoke about steps the country needs to take to reform the court.
