General Motors said on Tuesday that it would move the production of a gas SUV in a Michigan assembly plant and add the manufacturing of vans in its original state.
“GM will start the production of Cadillac Escalade, as well as the CHEVROLET SILVERADO and GMC SIERRA LIGHT DUTY ASSEMBLE TV vans at the beginning of 2027 to help meet a strong continuous customer demand,” said Detroit car manufacturer in a statement.
Climbing is currently produced in Arlington, Texas. Silverado and Sierra trucks are made in a Fort Wayne, Indiana, which will continue to produce vehicles. GM said that it adds more truck production to its Orion assembly plant in Michigan due to high demand.
This decision is based on GM’s plans to invest $ 4 billion in American facilities, which the automaker announced in June. This announcement came after President Donald Trump earlier this year implemented 25% of prices on imported vehicles and 25% of rights on many automotive parts imported in the United States
It is also based on the production of gas vehicles from the automaker.
The Orion assembly plant in the suburbs of Detroit, which is remutched for gas products, was to be its second exclusive electric vehicle factory in the United States
CEO Mary Barra said in 2021 that GM would exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2035, but the automaker has since declared that customer demand for electric vehicles was slower than expected and moved plans to meet consumer demand.
