“With a depth of sorrow, I confirm that AI India Flight, AI 171, operating Ahmedabad London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today,” said Air India president N Chandrasekaran.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known and could take months to determine. As part of international protocols during accidents, the country where the incident occurred will take the survey, as well as the managers, the aircraft manufacturer and its engines, and others.

The plane was bound for London Gatwick airport.

The flight was operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a wide -selling large bodysuit intended for longer routes. The plane was delivered to Air India in 2014, according to the Flightradar24 flight tracking site.

The initial data of the flight path “show that the plane has reached a maximum barometric altitude of 625 feet (the altitude of the airport is about 200 feet), then it started to descend with a vertical speed of -475 feet per minute,” said Flightradar on X.

“We are aware of the initial reports and work to collect more information,” said Boeing in a statement.

Flights to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a large airport in the region, were temporarily suspended as a result of the incident, a spokesperson for the airport said.

“I am deeply saddened by the accident of the airplane accident of Air India passengers in Ahmedabad. I asked those responsible to take rescue and rescue operations immediately in the accident and to make arrangements for immediate treatment of wounded passengers on a war base”, according to a translation of Google.

CNBC contacted the local police and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India.

“The rescue teams have been mobilized and all the efforts are made to ensure medical aid and support for help are precipitated on the site. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people on board and their families,” said Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Minister of Indian aviation, in a position on X.

The incident has resolved on the markets, with Boeing actions of more than 7% in prematurely trading.

The incident occurred just before the trade event of the high -level Paris Air Fair takes place for next week, where Boeing and Rival Airbus had to announce hundreds of aircraft orders.

Boeing also worked to spend a corner of a year of safety and quality crises and made progress, although it was not clear on Thursday if a problem of the plane quality was at stake in the India air crash.

This is a story in development and will be updated shortly.
