Prime Minister Hun Manet threatened on Friday to use the military force if the Thai army sends soldiers to a former Khme temple disputed on the Thai-Cambodia border.

The incomplete demarcation of the borders of the temple of your Moan Thom led to a confrontation between Cambodian soldiers who visited the temple last month and the Thai soldiers who are stationed nearby, according to Camboja online online online.

The Thai army wrote a formal protest letter In the Cambodian army following the confrontation, journalists told journalists on February 17.

Hun Manet said on Monday said that Cambodia would not be afraid to fight back if the Thai army violates Cambodian sovereignty.

“As a government, our priority is to respect peaceful resolution, using the basis of law and negotiation and our diplomacy, international law,” he said in a discourse to the Cambodian Tycoon Association.

“But we will be ready at any time if there is the use of armed force to invade the Cambodian territory,” he said. “Cambodia reserves the right to defend its sovereignty, using all means, including armed force.”

The TA Moan Thom dispute presents similarities with the disagreement of several decades on the Preah Vihear temple, which was the site of fatal conflicts with Thailand between 2008 and 2011.

TA Moan Thom is located in the border area between the province of Cambodia Oddar Meanchey and the province of Surin in Thailand and is around 140 km (87 miles) west of the Preah Vihear temple.

The temple of Preah Vihear, located at the top of a cliff in the mountains of Dangrek, was awarded in Cambodia in 1962 by the International Court of Justice, or ICJ. But this decision did not take into account the area of 4.6 square kilometers (1.8 square mile) around the Hindu temple, 1000 years old.

Cambodian and Thai troops exchanged several fire cycles from 2008 after Preah Vihear was appointed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dispute dissipated after the CIJ ruled again in favor of Cambodia in 2011.

Hun Manet mentioned this case on Monday, saying that Cambodia has experience in filing a complaint with the CIJ and fighting to defend its territory.

Hun Sen and the ICC

Meanwhile, the president of the Senate, Hun Sen, threatened to arrest anyone who compares him to the former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, who was Arrested this week and sent to the Netherlands Where he will be tried before the International Criminal Court, or ICC, for his bloody “war on drugs”.

Speaking at the same conference in Phnom Penh, Hun Sen said that people should not compare him to dictators or any other national leader who faces international arrest warrants against alleged crimes against humanity.

“I do not interfere in the internal affairs of the Philippines, but for Cambodia, we have firmly announced that we do not send our employees in other countries to continue,” he said. “Our constitution forbids us to strip citizens and prohibits the arrest of people in the name of foreign countries.”

Hun Sen’s autocratic reign as Prime Minister included complaints filed with the ICC by opposition activists and international lawyers during the 2016 government’s death -by -ball death, Kem Ley, the 2017 dissolution of the National Rescue Party of the Cambodian opposition and various land provisions caused by mass expulsions.

Hun Sen, 72, resigned from his post as Prime Minister in 2023 in favor of his eldest son, Hun Manet.

The history of Hun Sen for decades of being able to make it difficult from people from comparing him to dictators, the legal analyst, the legal analyst.

“He persecuted people, politicians and innocent people,” he said. “People cannot be prohibited from comparing it negatively. He would need to do good now so that people compare himself with the right people. »»

Cambodia has ratified the Rome status of the International Criminal Court – the Treaty which established the ICC – in 2002. Ratification gave the legal jurisdiction of crimes committed on the territory of Cambodia or its citizens.
