It was a move that was considered a long shot just days ago, and now has a real chance of breaking Mike Johnson and getting an extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies through the House.
Punchbowl News reported who is the bipartisan group in the House supporting the bill:
A bipartisan group of House members presents an invoice extend Obamacare’s enhanced subsidies for two years with new income limits and anti-fraud measures.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) is leading the effort, along with GOP representatives. Don Bacon (Neb.), Rob Bresnahan (Pa.) and Nicole Malliotakis (NY), as well as Democratic Reps. Jared Golden (Maine), Tom Suozzi (NY), Don Davis (NC) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.). The legislation would also crack down on pharmacy benefit managers and expand health savings accounts.
At their conference, House Republicans admitted that a bipartisan petition to extend Obamacare subsidies for two years would work and pass the House.
The income threshold for the enhanced grants would be $109,000 for a single person and more than $200,000 for a family, both reasonable figures that would not prevent people who really need grants from getting them.
LauraWeiss from Punchbowl News published on X:
A group of House GOP mods will file a discharge petition for a 2-year extension of Obamacare enhanced subsidies THIS WEEK Enough R’s on board that this could succeed IF House Dems support it. This would be for the Fitzpatrick-Golden bill.
Until today, the petition for discharge of this bill was considered a long-term project.
