House and Senate Republicans want to kill Donald Trump $1.8 billion DOJ slush fund for political criminals and insurrectionists.
CNN’s Manu Raju posted on X:
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is facing stiff resistance over the $1.8 billion in a tense Republican Senate meeting, I’m told. The Rs also warn that a major immigration enforcement and reconciliation bill they want to pass could be derailed by the hovering issue.
…
I just asked John Thune if the $1.8 billion fund should be eliminated. He said, “I have nothing for you. He did not answer upon entering his office whether the reconciliation bill would pass the Senate this week.
I’m told that most senators have expressed opposition to the fund – almost none have come to its defense. Lots of Rs unhappy with $1.8 billion fund.
There is a growing movement among House and Senate Republicans to eliminate the slush fund through legislation.
Thune’s non-response to Raju suggests that the reconciliation bill that would fund ICE and the Border Patrol is in deep trouble.
The number of problems caused by Trump’s corruption became clear when Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman posted about X:
THE SENATE will go home until June, leaving the reconciliation bill unfinished. THUNE just told the senators in the room. All because of the DOJ arms fund. House should soon follow suit.
Trump reduces his agenda to ashes, and now the reconciliation bill may be doomed to failure.
