If Democrats win back the House of Representatives next November, there will be no shortage of areas requiring accountability within the Trump administration.
Much of the expansion of executive power has focused on what conservatives have called the militarization of the DOJ.
Although Homeland Security and the DOJ are separate departmental agencies, the two have worked closely on Trump’s deportation policies. DOJ pursues Trump’s political enemies and hides Epstein files.
House Democrats are going to have to dismantle the distortion that Trump has caused in the executive branch through accountability.

Under Republican majorities in the House and Senate, there is no check on the executive branch.
On Sunday, Rep. Jamie Raskin spoke about the need for Democrats to reassert the power of Congress by winning a majority.
Raskin said on MSNBC’s The Weekend:
Mike Johnson won’t do it, and Thune won’t do it. They are not interested in defending Congress as a branch, as the framers of the Constitution predicted.
They did not predict political parties or the division of government. They thought the members of Congress would stand up. For the legislative voice of the people against the president, but it’s not happening. So we need to take Congress back. In the meantime, we are involved in numerous litigations to end this reign of anarchy and torture of our fundamental institutions and constitutional values.
Reasserting his authority through Congress would be to weaken Trump’s imperial presidency, but Raskin also gave some indication of Democrats’ priorities should they win a majority.
