Read the RFA cover of this subject in Burma.

A rebellious army and allied forces near the northwest border of Myanmar with India seized cities which were previously under the control of the junta, Radio Asia Radio said.

Chin Brotherhood has captured the second largest city in Falam in Chin State, located near the border with Mizoram in India, according to residents.

The rebel group, which is made up of six insurgent armies of the Allied chin, began the attacks on falam on November 5, 2024 and seized the remaining battalion of the 268 junta on Monday.

“We are continuing authorization operations now,” said a chin brotherhood, refusing to be appointed for fear of reprisals. “Tomorrow and the next day, we will publish the details.”

More than 10,000 residents fled to India to avoid shock, he added.

In addition, the defense of the people of the Indaw also took control of the Indiaw city in the Northern Sagaing region, capturing prisoners of war during the battle, said that a soldier of the junta, who refused to be identified for security reasons.

“The city battle has continued since August 16, they captured it today on April 7,” he said. “There were victims on both sides and about 40 of our soldiers were taken prisoner.”

The group also seized heavy weapons, a barrel and ammunition, he added.

Indaw is located on the Mandalay-Myitkyina highway and is an entry point into Kachin’s state, which makes it strategically important, the inhabitants said.

Setting armies are present in six of the nine cantons of the state of Chin, notably Paletwa, Matupi, Mindat, Kanpetlet and Tonzang.

The junta did not comment.

Calls to the Junta spokesperson, Major-General Zaw Min Tun Tun and the Chinese State spokesman Aung Cho remained unanswered.

According to data published by Myanmar Peace Monitor, a website that documents peace and conflict situations in Myanmar, the groups of insurgents captured 95 cities nationwide.

On March 28, 2025, a powerful magnification earthquake of 7.7 hit the center of Myanmar, causing generalized devastation. On Monday, the number of deaths increased to 3,600, with more than 5,000 injured and 160 missing.

In the midst of rescue efforts, the junta announced on Wednesday a 20-day ceasefire, which was preceded by the cease-fire offers of a large rebel group, of the Arakane army, and the government of the national civil unit in exile, composed of members of the Democratic government, ousted during a coup in 2021.

But the JUNT air strikes and the military control points have hindered rescue efforts, RFA residents told residents.

The highest military leader of the JUNT said on Monday that international aid groups who wanted to provide assistance to the regions struck by Myanmar earthquakes were to obtain prior approval from the JUNT authorities.
