When Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent testified on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Gregory Meeks put him on the spot by asking whether Bessent would investigate or terminate any license granted to Emirati company World Liberty Financial.
Meeks asked a yes or no question, and Bessent started talking about Meeks’ visit to Venezuela in 2006.
Meeks said: “I’ll take that as a no.”
Republicans on the committee tried to interrupt Meeks by saying his term had expired, but not before the congressman asked Bessent to stop covering for Trump.
Rep. Meeks said, “Stop covering for the president. Stop being his lackey.”
Bessent continued to read in his newspaper that Meeks was going to Venezuela, while the congressman continued: “Why don’t you stop covering for the president? Don’t be a stooge. Work for the American people, work for the American people. Don’t be a cover for a mob.”
