Patrick Mahomes talks about investment at the Throne Café, 18 NFL games.

CNBC Sport: Patrick Mahomes on his coffee habit, investing in sports teams and a longer season

The quarter of Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, added “coffee entrepreneur” to his already packaged curriculum vitae.

The triple Super Bowl champion invested in Throne Sport Coffee, adding to the 29 -year -old superstar portfolio off the field.

While its chiefs and the rest of the NFL are preparing for the coming season, Mahomes spoke to CNBC of its interest in coffee, its growing investment portfolio in sports properties, stadium policy in Kansas City and its point of view on a season of 18 NFL games.

Invest in his coffee habit

Patrick Mahomes is one of the main investors in the Café du Throne.

Throne Sport Coffee gracefulness

Mahomes became the second largest investor of the Throne Sport Coffee in May 2024, with unknown participation.

Today, he is not only an investor, but also the brand’s main pitchman and the product tester – and a daily drinker.

“It started in my first year in the NFL,” said Mahomes to CNBC of his coffee habit. “I was in many meetings, and coffee became a functional need. But then I started to really love it, especially black coffee.”

When the founder, CEO and veteran of the drinks industry, Mike Fedele, approached him with a ready -to -drink option designed to be a healthier caffeine boost, he said it seemed natural for him.

“I really fell in love with the taste and trying to make sure that what I put in my body was good,” he said.

Fedele, who worked with major brands like Coca-Cola and Bodyarmor, said the throne stands out because it has 10 grams of protein and 40% less sugar than competitors. The throne coffee contains about 50 calories with 1 gram of sugar.

By way of comparison, a ready -to -drink Starbucks Frappuccino can have up to 300 calories and 47 grams of sugar.

“Given how often people who care about what they put in their bodies consume coffee, I thought there had to be a better option,” he said.

Mahomes said that his daily habit of caffeine includes three cafes a day: one when he wakes up, another before meetings and a third before the preparation of the afternoon.

“It’s probably too much,” he laughed, “but with the throne, I know that I put something clean in my body, no waste, no sugar, and added electrolytes and vitamins B.”

The days of play? He said he was silent one or two.

The ready -to -drink coffee market is a rapidly growing category. The Americans spent $ 17.7 billion in the category in 2023, according to Technomic.

Despite its growth prospects, the throne is in competition in a crowded coffee space, with coffee competitors completing their ready -to -drink offer. Starbucks announced this week that it widens its range of losses ready to drink, citing the latest consumer trends and category growth.

The throne is only part of the growing investment portfolio of Mahomes. The Super Bowl MVP quarter also holds minority participations in the Kansas City Royals of MLB, Sporting Kansas City of the MLS and the Current KC of NWSL, with Alpine F1.

“I love sport. I love the way they bring people together: families, communities. This is what I want to invest,” said Mahomes.

So does that mean that he is looking at a future participation in the chiefs?

“It would be cool,” he said. “I hope that for a long time, but yes, I would like to be part of the team after having finished playing. They did so much for me.”

Stadium policy and football affairs

The future of the chiefing stadium is always undecided, because the franchise decides to renovate the stadium of the head of Arrow or to build a new stadium in Kansas. Mahomes did not say where he would prefer that the team play.

“Arrowhead is special. You feel the story. But wherever we play, the fans will arise,” he said.

Chiefs recently obtained an extension of one year to make a decision on their future stadium.

On the problems across the league, Mohomes said he was prudent as to the proposals for an 18 NFL game season and an international expansion, including the week 1 match of Chiefs in Brazil.

“More games are hard for the body. If we are going to go to 18 years, we need more weeks. Same thing with international games, questions planning.”
