The second Trump administration took this behavior to a new level, as it appears the agencies we no longer pretend to regulate the industries they are supposed to oversee; instead, they are now working hand in hand with big business to harm the American people.
Trump administration officials also have no qualms about lying to Congress since Republicans control both the House and Senate.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin was testifying before Congress and he was unprepared to hear from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) who asked him: “Secretary Kennedy was here a few weeks ago and when he was asked about glyphosate and the rollbacks against toxic chemical protections, he said we need to quote Lee Zelin on this. So here you are before us today. Directors, Zelin. Have you ever participated in a meeting with Bayer where you discussed the legal or litigation issues facing the company?
Zeldin’s response was his first mistake: “No, I never did. My meeting with them was very brief and this topic was not discussed.”
AOC asked: “Are you aware of any awareness measures they have in your agency on this subject? »
Zeldin said: “I directly had a brief meeting. Okay. But it was a brief meeting and this topic was not discussed.”
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez then entered the visitors’ logs into the record and gave Zeldin one more chance: “Are you sure they didn’t bring up anything regarding your work?”
Zeldin stayed true to his story: “I’m telling you one hundred percent. Absolutely. Me, maybe there was some brainstorming that was done beforehand on potential topics. Are you aware of it, this topic was not discussed.”
The New York congresswoman then dropped the gavel.
