Democrats poised for victory following Tennessee earthquake

The Republicans are hanging on to their majority in the House by a thread. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s abrupt resignation means a reliable Red House seat will remain vacant for months.

However, it’s what’s happening in a special congressional election in Tennessee that should terrify Republicans. Tennessee’s Seventh U.S. House District is not a race that, in a normal year, anyone would consider ready to flip.

Republicans heavily massacred the district. Trump won in 2024 by 22 points.

Hakeem Jeffries and House Democrats have steadily expanded their list of potential 2026 pickups. Democrats have been telling anyone who will listen for months that Republican districts carried by 20 points or more are in play for 2026.

Pundits and Republicans scoffed, because if seats won by Republicans by more than twenty points were in play, it could result in a historic midterm election victory for Democrats.

What’s happening in Tennessee’s special election makes it look like the Democrats are right.

The special election is Tuesday, and what happens in Tennessee could be a strong indicator of where the 2026 midterm elections will go.
