Democratic leadership at Congress seems to receive the message that their supporters send. Democrats want to see their party fighting, and in a new letter to their republican counterparts, Senator Chuck Schumer and representative Hakeem Jeffries have clearly indicated their position.
The leaders wrote:
Dear president Mike Johnson and Leader John Thune:
The financing deadline for September 30 will be at our doorstep. It is therefore imperative that we immediately bring together on our return to Congress next week to discuss the need to avoid a painful and unnecessary period in the financing of the government and to fight against the health care crisis that the Republicans have triggered in America.
The question of government financing must be resolved in a bipartite manner. It is the only viable path to follow. At the same time, it is essential that we are meeting to stop the assault of the Trump administration against health care in America. Unfortunately, it seems that the congress controlled by the Republican is not a plan to combat the growing health care crisis that your bill on budget reconciliation has triggered. Hospital closings and staff discounts are wreaking havoc on everyday Americans, especially in rural communities. This fall, millions of people will considerably face health insurance premiums, co-paids and franchises.
