I participated in a call which has just ended with meaning. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) where they discussed the impact of the Chamber's tax reductions for the rich and what it could mean for the chances of a redemption of the democratic senate in 2026.
Schumer said:
Let me say, on the basis of what the room has passed, our chances of taking up the Senate just increased because if the Republicans claim that their tax scam will raise America to all levels. Americans see that it is simply false.
Survey data shows it. The 0.1% of people will get large tax relief. The poorest 20% of Americans see their taxes increase. How is it right? It's not just taxes, it's poor. And the families of the working class see the costs of everyday items soaring.
What they have done on the side of clean energy will lose millions of jobs and cost much more on their electricity bills. Families will have to understand how to find additional money to pay for these energy costs. Families will lose health care. Families will lose food advantages. Families will lose jobs, families will lose money.
The reason because the Republicans want a billionaire tax gift. And we will fight this tooth and this nail. We know that many Republicans on the Senate side are tight on the Medicaid cups, the disparity of taxes, clean energy cuts, and this. And we urge all those who listen to this call or who read something in the press or online to ensure that they call their republican senators and say, do not vote for this billionaire tax scam.
Senator Klobuchar said that the American people did not want this bill, and that the Senate Republicans are already talking about changing it:
I think you all know that we fought this before the courts, in Congress and with our voters by our side. In a recent survey, only 14% of Americans asked how to do something on the budget, what would you like? Only 14% would choose to reduce health care, food and education to prolong Trump tax reductions, which does exactly what this bill does.
Almost 60% prefer to increase taxes on rich and large companies to maintain services and reduce debt. This is what we are going to do to the American people in the coming week and in the coming months. And, we have people on our side and it is up to us to assert this affair.
And our republican colleagues that you have already heard by saying: We do not want to change Medicaid. Grassley said it would be a overhaul of the AG (agriculture) part. So we listen to it all with care and they must get up.
If the Democrats and the American people make the Senate Republicans change the bill, will the revised legislation be able to pass the Chamber?
This is a question that can determine the fate of this legislation.
Senator Schumer was right. The chances that the Democrats obtain seats in the Senate and to take over the majority have increased after The Republicans of the Chamber adopted their bill. It is always a difficult battle for the Democrats, the Republicans of the Senate are now marked with this bill, and what resembled an impossible political rise continues to become a little easier.
