The largest pickleball franchise in the world arrives in Japan.
The Picklr, a network of indoor pickleball clubs, will open 20 new locations on the Japanese market over the next five years, the company announced on Thursday. The expansion will take place thanks to a strategic partnership with Nippon Pickleball Holdings, the main Japanese pickleball company.
PDG of Picklr, Jorge Barragan, adopted an aggressive growth strategy because sport has experienced exponential growth. Pickleball saw a leap of 223% of the participation over a three -year period, according to Sports and Fitness Industry Association, which makes the “fastest” sport For several years of racing.
In the United States, there are more than 20 million pickleball players in the United States.
The Picklr currently operates 40 locations in the United States and Canada. He expects this number to reach 80 clubs by the end of the year. Barragan said in total that the company has sold more than 500 franchises in the United States, Canada and Japan, which should open in the next 5 years.
Clubs offer judicial reservations and clinics, leagues, tournaments and private events. The company is managed as a membership model, most clubs have an average between 500 and 700 members, the picklr said.
Barragan told CNBC that he thought Japan would serve as a wider market launch ramp.
“For us, it was important to go to a ready and ready to be ready to accept the growth of the pickler, especially like a country like Japan which mainly focuses on health and the community, but they like racket sports,” said Barragan.
The first installation of Japanese picklr should open its doors in the Metropolitan region of Tokyo, followed by additional locations across the country. The facilities will be located in retail buildings, offices and light industrialists.
Barragan said that he did not see the trend of pickleball giving himself anytime soon. He said he was still part of more than 220 monthly tracks, including many of these internationals.
“We are still waiting for the day when the tracks will be reduced or descend,” he said. “We still haven't seen this dip.”
Pickleball professional leagues are also looking for international growth. In July, the United Pickleball Association announced its intention to extend its tour to include events in Australia, India, Canada, Asia and Europe.
“I think different parts of the world are starting to get the pickleball bug and that they are starting to experience what we experienced four years ago when we started the business,” said Barragan.
