General Motors And Nvidia have agreed with a strategic collaboration which includes the automaker using several artificial intelligence products and services of the technology giant for its new generation vehicles, its advanced driver assistance systems and factories.
Companies announced Tuesday that new initiatives include the creation of personalized artificial intelligence systems using NVIDIA calculation platforms, including “Omverse with Cosmos”, to optimize GM factory planning and robotics.
Detroit’s automaker has also said that he would use “Nvidia Drive AGX” for “temporary equipment for future driver assistance systems and improved cabin safety driver experiences”.
GM refused to disclose a cost for new tools with Nvidia. The technological company has attempted to diversify its automotive activity, which has notably included substantial work in data centers and GPUs.
“The era of physical AI is there, and with GM, we transform transport, from vehicles to factories where they are manufactured,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, in a press release. “We are delighted to associate with GM to build AI systems adapted to their vision, crafts and know-how.”

GM uses NVIDIA, or GPU graphics processing units, for the training of AI models in various areas of his business, including simulation and validation. The new company extends to temporary equipment, design and operations of the automotive factory, companies said.
The car manufacturer has also been testing Nvidia omaverse for at least 2022. Some GM tests were in the design of a “digital twin” or a replica of its new design center and its processes to help the development of virtual vehicles. He also acted as a unique digital environment so that employees can work and collaborate, according to a video last year GM featuring for the conference of GTC developers in NVIDIA in 2023.

Nvidia provided that this would conclude an agreement with GM Mid-Lest Year for Omovers, according to an e-mail from the internal company consulted by CNBC. At that time, two sources with GM noted that the automaker was not sure that the software and the NVIDIA GPU were worth the high cost compared to other companies.
It was not immediately clear which sealed the agreement for GM. But since that time, the two companies have experienced increased competition from China and uncertain regulatory changes such as prices. The GM stock is down approximately 8% in 2025, while Nvidia is down approximately 12% this year.
“The AI optimizes not only the manufacturing processes and accelerates virtual tests, but also helps us to build smarter vehicles while allowing our workforce to focus on crafts,” said Mary Barra, CEO of GM, in the release of Nvidia. “By merging technology with human ingenuity, we unlock new levels of innovation in the manufacture of vehicles and beyond.”
GM and NVIDIA actions cutting
Companies have announced new initiatives as part of the GTC AI conference in Nvidia this week in California.
NVIDIA describes omaverse as a platform to “develop and deploy industrial digitization applications based on physics”. It essentially connects a physical environment to a digital world or software to optimize processes using a “digital twin” of a physical environment such as a GM design installation or a factory.
Nvidia Omverse users included BMW, Amazon Robotics and Samsung, Reverend Lebaredian, Vice-President of Nvidia of Omivers and Simulation Technology, said at a press conference a year ago. He said the company was licking omavers for $ 4,500 per GPU, per year.
We do not know how many GM GPUs will need. But given the amount of robotics, sensors and other systems necessary to operate a modern assembly plant, it would probably be a bit.
More than 20 other car manufacturers have used NVIDIA “system on a chip” in the central computer units of their smart vehicles, including Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Audi, Volkswagen and Byd, according to a research note on the actions of the Jeffries industry in November 2023.
In recent years, NVIDIA has seen a claim for its GPUs, which are used for everything, from Bitcoin exploitation to the inference and formation of AI.
