American Express Thursday, unveiled its flagship credit card updates in the midst of increased industry competition from the country’s high expenses.

The company said that consumer and business versions of its Platinum REFROCIE card now have annual fees of $ 895, around 29% higher than current costs of $ 695.

But consumers can now operate $ 3,500 in annual advantages, according to American Express, mainly in the form of credits compensating for the purchases made on the card, more than double the previous level.

The advantages include credits to Uber,, LululemonUra, the Restaurant Restaurant reservation platform and the improved hotel and streaming advantages, said the issuer of the card. Business cards users will also see $ 3,500 in annual advantages, including new hotel credits and compensation for purchases at Dell Technologies And Adobe.

These are above the existing advantages of the card, none of which has been canceled, said Howard Grosfield, president of American consumer services from American Express.

The announcement of American Express highlights a kind of arms race with regard to rich American consumers. In recent months, JPMorgan Chase And Citigroup Released from premium updates or new cards, products responsible for services for those who spend, travel and dine enough to make them worth it.

In particular, American Express and JPMorgan each made announcements during the day after the unveiling of premium updates updates of their rival. American Express praised his greatest investment never over in a card card in June just before JPMorgan published his last Sapphire reserve card, while JPMorgan announced on Wednesday improvements from the hotel on this card.

Card transmitters are relying on the fact that the rich Americans lead to a constant increase in the country’s overall expenses. Consumers with 10% higher income represented about half of the total expenses in the second quarter, the highest level in more than three decades, according to Moody’s Analytics.

Unlocking

But the increase in the cost of belonging to the card has led some users to recover towards lower level versions or to explore more affordable offers of Capital One Or Citigroup, Bankrate’s principal analyst Ted Rossman, told CNBC in June.

Some customers of the online forums, notably Reddit, deplored what they called the “Coupons Book” approach which obliges users to use their cards with diligence to maximize the advantages.

While the advantages of the Platinum card, such as a restoration credit of $ 400 via Resy or $ 300 of Lululemon credit, require online registrations, American Express said that a new application feature for Platinum users would make the configuration and use of simple advantages.

“We spent a lot of time, how to make this as simple as possible for the members of the card to understand, access and, above all, unlock all these great advantages,” Grosfield told CNBC in an interview.

Existing customers with the Consumer Platinum card will lead to the new higher annual costs on renewal dates from January 2 and from the company.
