Democrats have a real chance of transforming a Senate in Texas Blue

The Democrats have long watched Texas as a place where they dreamed of unraveling. While the population has moved into the state, the Republicans have spent years adopting the laws on the suppression of voters and the Gerrymanderd cards as part of their power conservation plan.

Some candidates, such as Beto O’Rourke, were almost gaining on a state scale, but the Democrats needed the good combination of a weak republican candidate and a national climate to win in Texas.

In 2025, these stars could line up.

The Ken Paxton State Attorney General is extremely unpopular. It is the embodiment of what many Texans consider a republican party of the corrupt state.

Paxton has decided to challenge the octogenarian senator John Cornyn who is also unpopular, but Cornyn’s problem is that he is very unpopular with republican voters who will vote in the Texas primary.

The Super PAC branch of the Senate Republicans is the leadership fund of the Senate and they recently showed how expensive it will be to try to save Cornyn.

Punchbowl News reported:

The Senate leadership fund, the best GOP Super PAC focused on the races in the Senate, urged donors last week to open their portfolios to help Cornyn take up a challenge by the Texas Ken Paxton Attorney General, arguing that the race could become an expensive disaster without immediate intervention.

Their message, as indicated in a SLF slideshow obtained by Punchbowl News, is Stark – Investing in Cornyn now or making a boost trying to elect paxton next fall.

SLF plans that it would cost between $ 25 and $ 70 million to help Cornyn win the GOP’s appointment – or require 200 to 250 million dollars to save Paxton in the general elections.

Paxton could end up costing the Senate Republicans nearly $ 300 million if it becomes the candidate. This is not the cost of taking up space. He must be spent to save a seat in Texas.

It is 300 million dollars who will not go to the other Republican candidates in the Senate in races for seats open in places like North Carolina and Michigan.

The Senate leadership fund is the fundraising mechanism created by Mitch McConnell. SLF is the only external organization dedicated to the Senate Republicans, so if it has to spend $ 300 million to protect a seat, it will be a disaster for the GOP.

At worst, Republicans will spend hundreds of millions of dollars in Texas and will be lower in other states. At best, for the Democrats, Paxton wins the appointment, the Republicans spend hundreds of millions of dollars and still lose.

If the Democrats renew the Senate in 2026, it will probably be largely due to success in Texas.

It might be time for Texas to become a little blue.
