A Junta jet bombed a village controlled by rebels on Tuesday in western Myanmar, killing more than a dozen civilians, an Arakane army official, or AA, and residents told Radio Free Asia.
The AA, which controls 14 of the 17 cantons of the state of Rakhine, faced the climbing of the assaults of the junta involving air strikes, village burns, travel restrictions and the blocking of vital supplies such as food and medicine.
In the canton of Rathedaung controlled by AA, an Jeta bombed the village of Htun Ya Wai just after 10 am, a person close to the AA told RFA.
“13 dead … at least 20 injured, but the figures could increase,” he said. “We always confirm.”
He identified the deceased as a two -year -old girl and an 82 -year -old woman, while the wounded included six children aged 2 to 10, the remaining victims ranging from 19 to 50 years.
The number of deaths is expected to increase because many people are seriously injured and sent to neighboring clinics and the hospital, he said, adding that many are still missing.
“People living in the village and nearby fled Htun Ya Wai after the bombing,” said a resident, who refused to bear the name of security. “They fear that another cycle of bombs is coming, so they left.”
Residents told FRG that several houses had also been destroyed and that the junta had cut internet and telecommunications services in AA controlled areas.
The AA announced that it had taken up total control of the canton of Rathedaung in March 2024 and has since administered the region through its own governance structures.
The Junta did not publish any information concerning the attack and calls to Junta spokesperson, Major-General, Zaw Min Tun remained unanswered.
The latest Junta assault occurred one day after bombing the canton of Tabayin controlled by Rebelle in the sagaing region, killing at least 20 children, two teachers and injuring others.
Junta's attacks continued nationally despite the military regime declaring a cease-fire on April 2 to May 31.
