NBC adds Michael Jordan to his coverage of the National Basketball Association.
The network announced on Monday at its initial presentation that Jordan will join the network as a special contributor to NBA Broadcasts.
“I am so excited to see the NBA again on NBC,” said Jordan in a video in parallel with the announcement. “The NBA on NBC was a significant part of my career, and I am delighted to be a special contributor to the project. I can't wait to see you all when the NBC on NBC is launched in October.”
We do not know what will be the exact role of Jordan. A person familiar with the case told CNBC that basketball legend would not be a “regular” in the programming but will appear throughout the season.
In July, NBC concluded an 11 -year agreement with the NBA to broadcast matches through NBC Sports and Peacock from this fall.
Jordan's agreement with NBC marks its first partnership with a big broadcaster since his retirement from the Court in 2003.
The 14 times NBA All-Star has since focused on her business career, first as owner of the Charlotte Hornets and later as a 23xi Racing Nascar owner.
NBC Sports President Rick Cordella told CNBC Sport last month that NBC was trying to bring a mixture of this nostalgia from the 90s to NBA viewers.
The network also still exploited the music of John Tesh, composer of “Roundball Rock”, a popular anthem that gained notoriety with NBC basketball in the 90s.
Cordella also said that NBC would bring the players' presentations back to broadcasting in order to show the atmosphere.
Jamal Crawford, Reggie Miller, Carmelo Anthony, Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle will also be part of NBC's broadcasting NBC this fall, as well as the use of a voice generated by fire artificial intelligence Jim Fagan.
Disclosure: Nbcuniversal is the parent company of NBC and CNBC.
