The Federal Communications Commission alerted the Walt Disney Company And his unit ABC that he will start an investigation into the efforts of diversity, equity and inclusion in the media giant.

The FCC, the agency which regulates the media and telecommunications industry, said in a letter dated Friday that it wanted to “ensure that Disney and ABC did not violate the regulations on equal opportunities for the employment of the FCC by promoting prompt forms of discrimination of Dei”.

“We are examining the letter from the Federal Communications Commission, and we are impatient to get involved with the Commission to answer his questions,” Disney spokesperson told CNBC.

The president of the FCC, Brendan Carr, who was recently appointed by President Donald Trump, began a similar investigation into Comcast and nbcuniversal in early February. The investigation comes after Trump signed a decree that seeks to end Dei practices in American companies in January. The order asks each federal agency to “identify up to nine potential civil compliance surveys” among the listed companies, as well as non -profit organizations and other institutions.

“For decades, Disney focused on the dissemination of success at the box office and programming,” Carr wrote in the letter to CEO Bob Iger. “But then something has changed. Disney was now involved in controversy cycles surrounding its dei policies.”

An FCC spokesperson has not commented beyond the letter.

Disclosure: Comcast is the parent company of Nbcuniversal and CNBC.
