Elon Musk has messed up when he told all federal employees to answer an email to tell him what they accomplished last week, otherwise they would lose their jobs. Some agencies responded by telling their employees to ignore the email.

Musk is a political novice which did not understand that his email gave the Democrats of the Chamber a political opening.
More than 100 Democrats in the House took the opportunity by sending a letter on Monday to 24 federal agencies.
The group is led by the member of the supervisory committee classification, Gerry Connolly (D-VA), which wrote:
Whether Musk understands it or not, America is a nation of laws, our government is a system of checks and counterweights, and federal agencies will not be reorganized by the social media position. This blow is still another example of the cruel and arbitrary chaos that Mr. Musk inflicts on the American people in “ taking a chainsaw saw ” to the government of the people and to the dedicated officials who maintain them. Mr. Musk’s constant refusal to take any amount of care before disrupting operations through the federal government imposes much greater costs than it will legitimately save it.
The nature of Mr. Musk’s employment is opaque, probably illegal and has been masked in secret since the first day of this administration. What is clear and reflected in the tweet of the threat of cruel dismissal and the OPM by hand email that followed is that Mr. Musk lacks basic understanding of the functioning of the federal government. For example, the OPM email has been sent to people who do not even work in the executive power, including the federal judges in practice.
Neither the Musk tweet nor the email account for the fact that many federal workers will not receive this email in time to respond by deadline because they can be far from their secure workstation, on medical leave or far from Their email for completely justifiable reasons. It does not seem as unconscious as many federal employees are locked by their systems due to the continuous intrusion of DOGE in the federal infrastructure on information technologies.
Finally, neither Musk nor OPM explained to the public how OPM and agencies would examine and potentially deal with two million responses among the government – which are duplicate in existing performance management procedures – without diverting resources and costing people American money and services.
