As more women come forward to report a wide range of sexual misconduct, committed by Representative Eric Swalwell, the congressman’s campaign for governor in California has collapsed and he will face an expulsion vote this week in the House.
Sen. Reuben Gallego (D-AZ) was a supporter and friend of Swalwell, but he immediately withdrew his support once the allegations became public.
Gallego has now asked the House to expel Swalwell.

Senator Gallego posted on X:
I support the Ethics Committee’s investigation and believe Eric Swalwell is no longer fit to be a member of Congress. He should be expelled from Congress.
I want to be clear: I had no knowledge of the allegations of assault, harassment and predatory behavior against Eric Swalwell.
I trusted someone I thought was a friend, but it’s now clear that’s not the person I thought I knew.
The women who came forward showed courage. They deserve to be believed, supported and justice done.
Gallego’s name has been bandied about as a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2028, so he’s likely thinking about his own political future to some extent, but it’s also clear that many Democrats were unaware of the allegations against Swalwell.
Eric Swalwell’s allegations didn’t come out of nowhere, as you’ll see below.
