After confidential briefing, senator calls Iran war a disaster and debacle

The biggest sign that Trump’s war with Iran is not going well is that the administration still can’t give a coherent reason for why the war is happening.

The senators have now had two classified briefings, which are two more speeches that Donald Trump has given to the American people on the war.

Coming out of the latest classified briefing, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) warned that Trump appeared to be moving toward using U.S. troops on the ground in Iran.

Blumenthal said:

I came away from this briefing frankly dissatisfied and angry, as I have been at every other briefing in my 15 years in the Senate. I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war. My questions. I have been left without answers and I will demand answers because the American people deserve to know.

And I guess I’m very concerned about the threat to American lives from the potential deployment of our sons and daughters on the ground in Iran. We seem to be on a good path. Toward deploying U.S. troops on the ground in Iran to achieve one of the potential goals here. And there is also, more worrying than anything else, the specter of active Russian aid to Iran endangering American lives.

Literally, Russia appears to be actively and intensively helping our enemy by providing intelligence and perhaps in other ways, and China may also be helping Iran. So the American people deserve to know much more than this administration has told them about the cost of war, the danger to our sons and daughters in uniform, and the potential for further escalation and widening of this war. A war chosen by this president, not chosen by the American people, with potentially enormous consequences for American lives.

Video of Senator Blumenthal:

Senator Blumenthal was angry, but his colleague, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) was even more direct.
