Jack Smith’s public hearing turns against Republicans

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan would not give Jack Smith a public hearing. Jordan denied Smith’s request for a public hearing. Instead, Smith testified privately before the committee, and only after this private testimony did Jordan yield to Smith’s wishes and public outcry in favor of a public hearing.

Given how things are going for the Republicans, Jordan probably wishes he had stuck to the original plan.

The Republicans’ mission is to make it appear that Smith led a politically motivated investigation that violated the constitutional rights of Donald Trump and his co-conspirators.

The problem is that Trump and his co-conspirators lost their constitutional rights when they began engaging in what Smith deemed criminal activity in an effort to overturn the 2020 election.

This small detail has not stopped Republicans from continually repeating false allegations about “espionage” and violations of constitutional rights.

Republicans tried to portray Smith as a supporter who wanted to attack Trump, but they failed.

The problem for Republicans is that Trump is talking about the case against Trump and his evidence against the president.

Smith that he had Republican witnesses against Trump:

There were witnesses who I thought would be very strong witnesses, including the Georgia Secretary of State who told Donald Trump the truth, told him things he didn’t want to hear, and made him understand that what he was saying was wrong. These were people who knew how elections were going in these states, and I believe they are witnesses of that nature, witnesses who are willing to tell the truth, even if it will impose a cost on their lives.

In my experience as a prosecutor for over 30 years, such witnesses are very credible and jurors tend to believe them because they pay a price for telling the truth.

However, it was when Smith lied about Trump continuing to talk about the rigged election in 2020 that things really got bad for the president and his party.
