It’s easy for Americans who have been battling Donald Trump for a decade to forget that the rest of the world has not been subjected to the version of Trump they have under his second administration.
Under the first administration of Donald Trump, particularly on foreign policy, he was held to some extent under the control of people who knew what they were doing and told him no.
These people do not exist in the second Trump administration.

Trump is now surrounded by people who will perpetuate his ideas, no matter how crazy, and carry out his wishes as he sees fit.
The world begins to see that the American people have been facing for years, and it is clear that they do not know how to deal with it.
Very early Tuesday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social:
It is shocking that our “brilliant” NATO ally, the UK, is currently considering handing over the island of Diego Garcia, site of a vital US military base, to Mauritius, FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. There is no doubt that China and Russia noticed this act of utter weakness. They are international powers that recognize only FORCE, which is why the United States of America, under my leadership, is now, after only one year, respected like never before.
The UK giving away extremely significant land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY and is yet another in a very long line of national security reasons why Greenland must be acquired. Denmark and its European allies must do the right thing. Thank you for your attention to this matter. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
In Davos, Governor Gavin Newsom, in conflict with Trump for years, gave advice to European leaders.
Newsom said:
It’s time to pull ourselves together. It’s time to get serious and stop being complicit. It’s time to stand tall and strong, to have a backbone. I’ve seen this in the United States, with an inactive Congress having it both ways.
To say one thing in a text or a tweet and another publicly is to have a reform with principles. It’s time to stand up.
