Indiana Republicans resisted relentless threats and pressure and said no to Donald Trump.
According to the Chronicle of the capital of Indiana:
The Republican-dominated Indiana Senate voted 19-31 Thursday against redistricting the state’s congressional districts, rejecting months of demands from President Donald Trump.
The final outcome remained uncertain until 21 Republicans joined all 10 Democratic senators in rejecting the redistricting plan.
With the result, Indiana became the first Republican-led state legislature to vote against Trump’s wish to eliminate more GOP-friendly congressional seats, hoping to improve the party’s chances of retaining its slim majority in the House of Representatives after the 2026 midterm elections.
The significance lies in the fact that Republicans stood up and blew Trump’s bluff, which has massive political implications for the rest of Trump’s presidency.
