Freedom of expression wins as Sinclair stations to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel

One of the two owners of ABC affiliation stations who refused air to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live has sold.

Friday evening, the Sinclair adapted to Trump announced that their ABC stations will resume the broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel.

Sinclair made this announcement in a statement:

OYour goal throughout this process has been to ensure that the programming remains exact and engaging for the widest possible public. We take our responsibility seriously as local broadcasters to provide a program that serves the interests of our communities, while honoring our obligations to disseminate the national network programming.

During last week, we received reflected comments from viewers, advertisers and community leaders representing a wide range of prospects. We also attended disturbing acts of violence, in particular the despicable incident of a shooting in an ABC affiliation station in Sacramento. These events underline why the responsible distribution of questions and why the respectful dialogue between different voices remains so important.

In our current and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen responsibility, the feedback of viewers and community dialogue, including an independent mediator on the network level. These proposals have been suggested as collaboration efforts between ABC affiliates and the ABC network. Although ABC and Disney have not yet adopted these measures and that Sinclair respects their right to make these decisions by virtue of our network affiliation agreements, we believe that such measures could strengthen trust and responsibility.

Our decision to preempt this program was independent of any interaction or government influence. Freedom of expression offers broadcasters the right to exercise judgment as for the content of their local stations. Although we understand that not everyone will agree with our decisions concerning programming, it is simply inconsistent to defend freedom of expression while demanding that diffusers like specific content.

As a business rooted in local stations, Sinclair remains determined to serve our communities with a program that reflects their priorities, wins their confidence and promotes constructive dialogue. We look forward to continuing to work with ABC to deliver content that serves a wide range of our communities.

Sinclair tried to obtain ABC concessions to Muzzle Kimmel. ABC said no, so Sinclair said OK and announced that they will return to broadcast the show.

What is really happening is that Sinclair could only refuse the show for a limited period before being out of their contract with ABC, so they had to resume the broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel at some point.

The big factor was the spectator’s protest. Sinclair’s stations were hammered by viewers who wanted to watch Jimmy Kimmel. In addition to the demonstration, the stations were going to lose income because Kimmel was replaced by reruns of quarrels of the celebrity family on Sinclair, and it is a safe assumption that millions of people have not settled for this.

This is a victory for freedom of expression because even Sinclair could not deny the requests of viewers.

Trump’s offer to make Kimmel turned into practically collapsed. Nexstar always refuses to broadcast the show, but public pressure and popular will win.
