The founder of the Journal du Quotidien Apple de Hong Kong, Lai, 77, who is also a British citizen, has been in prison since December 2020.

Lai is currently a lawsuit for “collusion with foreign forces” under the Hong Kong National Security Act.

Jimmy Lai’s son Sebastien warned that “time is exhausted” for the health of his father and called on Great Britain and the United States to put pressure for his release.

The human rights groups say that the Lai’s trial is a “imposture” and is part of a broad repression against dissent in Hong Kong.

Hearings should last eight days.
