“ F1 ” is the most profitable theatrical film of Apple ever

Always from Apple “F1”.

Apple

The lights off, we go.

“F1: The film” did not even reach the checkered flag of its theatrical race, but it is already Apple Best movie release of all time.

The film, distributed by Discovery Warner Bros. After $ 293 million at the world box office this weekend. This went beyond Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon”, which generated $ 221 million during its race in 2023, to become Apple’s most profitable theatrical release.

The technological society has sent only a handful of films in cinemas with large outings since it has plunged into the media sector in recent years. “Killers of the Flower Moon” raised $ 158 million worldwide “,” Fly Me to the Moon “took $ 42 million and” Argylle “generated $ 96 million in ticket sales worldwide.

“‘F1’ is an extremely important film for Apple and for industry as a whole,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “This is a perfect test case on the way a streaming service can develop a film that is obvious for the big screen while promoting the film through the millions of small screens that their technological imprint puts directly in front of their subscribers.”

“F1” has greatly benefited from its partnership with Imax. Before production, Apple and the best creatives in the film set out not only to secure the use of Imax’s camera technology, but also a three -week version in its theaters.

In fact, the “F1” agreement meant that Universal “Jurassic World Rebirth” did not obtain an IMAX national version and was only presented on IMAX screens in China. This film will also appear in IMAX screens in Japan next month.

“F1” has generated $ 60 million in its global transport of IMAX theaters, just over 20% of its total crude brut so far. At the national level, the film generated $ 27.4 million in ticket sales through IMAX projections, or about 25% of film ticket sales in the United States and Canada.

While the film approaches $ 300 million in world ticket sales, it still has a few laps to do to be profitable for Apple. The film cost between $ 200 and $ 300 million to be won, according to reports, and around $ 100 million on the market. The studio also shares receipts with Warner Bros. and theaters.

“Naturally, a mega film on a low budget like ‘F1’ can have a fairly long path towards profitability given the various income divisions with cinemas and Warner Bros., but Apple has the resources and cash reserves to take this risk,” said Dergarabedian.

For Apple, success seems very different from that of traditional studios. Entertainment is not the main engine of the company’s income – not even close. Apple has a market capitalization of 3 dollars and generates most of its income from its suite of technological devices.

And Apple not only spent money for movies and television products to try to feed sales of its phones, televisions and computers.

“We entered this business because we thought it would be a good company,” said Apple Eddy Services, picked in a recent Bloomberg interview. “And to continue doing great things, you need companies to be profitable.”

Apple has grown in the pop culture space with programs like “Ted Lasso”, “Severance” and “The Studio” and was the first streamer to win the Best Oscar Movie Prize for “Coda” of 2021.
