Global payment company Paypal announced on Thursday that it had signed an agreement with the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences to allow students-athletes to receive compensation via the Fintech company platform.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after a court regulation in the House c. NCAA, which considerably moves the college sports landscape by allowing schools to compensate students athletes for the first time. The regulations allow individual schools to distribute up to $ 20.5 million to current athletes over the next year, and provides up to $ 2.8 billion in compensation to former NCAA players.

The new agreement will allow Big Ten and Big 12 sports departments to distribute these payments using exclusively Paypal.

Paypal said the initial deployment should start this summer. The house’s regulations come into force on July 1.

The agreement will allow students from Big Ten and Big 12 universities to receive their compensation quickly and safely, said Paypal. The company added that students will also have the opportunity to pay their tuition fees at the college via Paypal, which will become a preferred payment partner in certain schools.

“We are proud to help direct this transformation of university athletics by facilitating and faster
So that students-athletes are paid and continue to provide trade in trust and innovative trade at the heart of the life of the campus, “said Paypal’s president and chief executive officer, Alex Chriss, in a statement.

Paypal Venmo’s mobile payment service also extends its position in university sports.

Venmo will be the presentation partner of the very first series of Big Ten rivalries and will be the official partner of the Big 12 conference. The company also works with Big Ten and Big 12 schools to allow students to use VenMo in university bookstores and for the athletics of the campus for articles such as tickets, concessions and goods.

The Big Ten conference was extended to 18 schools last August includes the University of Maryland, the Penn State University, the University of Michigan and the Ohio State University. The Big 12 conference includes 16 schools such as Arizona State University, the University of Florida Centrale and the University of Houston.
