Novo Nordisk On Wednesday, said that he will offer his drug as far as WeGovy weight loss for less than half of his usual price per month via a new direct pharmacy to consumers.

The cash register The offer is available for millions of patients without insurance coverage for successful injection. It aims to make Wegovy available to more people, while ensuring that patients use brand drugs instead of cheaper compound copycies that exploded in popularity during a recently resolved American NOVO Nordisk drug shortage.

The pharmacy, called Novocare, will allow patients to pay $ 499 in cash per month for the weekly medication. The price of the Wegovy list before insurance and other discounts is nearly $ 1,350 per month.

The site can also send Wegovy prescriptions directly to patient houses through a specialized pharmacy partner. Novocare will also offer recharging reminders and access to live support from a company’s case manager, among other patient support services.

“Patients and prescribers have another option that provides practical access to all doses of real Wegovy approved by the FDA at a reduced cost in our high quality pen,” said Dave Moore, executive vice-president of American operations and global business development, in a press release.

In particular, the company said that in the “near future” that it would extend the new savings offer to Wegovy to cash patients who use traditional retail pharmacies so that they can also pay a lower price.

The move of the Danish drug manufacturer follows a similar strategy of its main rival Eli Lilly. The two companies are fighting to dominate the so-called GLP-1 market, which imitate certain intestinal hormones to remove appetite and regulate blood sugar.

Eli Lilly in January 2024 launched its own direct online pharmacy to consumers, Lillydirect, to help patients access its Zepbound weight loss medication.

The website allows eligible patients to obtain a prescription via a remote party supplier and can provide home delivery. More recently, Lillydirect has also started to offer Zepbound in single dose bottles which are half or even lower than its usual $ 1,000 list.

In recent months, Food and Drug Administration has declared the American shortages of Zepbound and Wegovy. This decision will prevent certain composition pharmacies from creating unprecedented versions of injections.

Novocare helps patients “to avoid the significant risks that can be laid down by the composition market, as planned by respected organizations, medical community experts and the FDA,” Novo Nordisk said in a statement.
