Amazon should take creative control of the Lucrative James Bond films of the Broccoli family, the company announced on Thursday.
James Bond’s films have long been produced by Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who inherited the control of their father Albert “Cubby” Broccoli. Wilson and Broccoli will now give creative control to MGM Studios, which Amazon acquired for $ 8.45 billion in 2021.
Amazon obtained distribution rights on the Bond franchise after the acquisition of MGM, but not a creative control.
As part of the agreement, the MGM studios of Amazon, Wilson and Broccoli have formed a new joint venture to shelter the intellectual property rights of Bond, and they will remain co -owners of the franchise.
“We are grateful to the late Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman to have brought James Bond to cinemas from the world dearly dearly by fans from around the world,” said Mike Hopkins, Amazon of Prime Video and MGM Studios, in a press release. “We are honored to continue this precious heritage and we are impatient to set up the next phase of the legendary 007 for the public around the world.”
Wilson and Broccoli declared in a statement that they both returned from the production of Bond films to focus on other projects.
“Barbara and I agree, it’s time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to drive James Bond in the future,” said Wilson.
In a nod to the agreement, the founder of Amazon and executive president Jeff Bezos wrote in an article on X, “Who did you choose as next link?”
The Bond Film franchise, which extends over more than 60 years, is one of the most profitable series in history.
The precious IP is expected to be a boon for Amazon’s media and tentacular entertainment affairs, which includes the first video streaming service. Prime Video is one of the key advantages of Amazon Prime, the company’s main subscription service that costs $ 139 per year. In 2021, the company said that it had more than 200 million first -rate subscribers around the world.
