At least 15 people were injured after a Delta airlines The regional jet crashed at landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon, officials announced.
The 80 people on board were evacuated from the plane, a regional jet of the CRJ-900, after the accident, occurring around 2:45 p.m., said the Federal Aviation Administration. According to the regional paramedical services of Peel, two people were transported by plane.
The emergency teams responded to the premises and flights to the airport were interrupted. Delta said he was aware of the incident and that he “works to confirm all the details and will share the most recent information” on his information site.
Delta flight 4819 is from Delta International Delta Airport in Minneapolis – Paul Paul.
Toronto airport said it expected a busy day and a storm that spilled more than 8 inches of snow in the region, with 130,000 travelers expected aboard around 1,000 flights.
Weather reports have shown a wind between 20 MPH and 30 MPH on Monday, with gusts up to 40 mph.
The Transport Security Council of Canada will investigate the accident, the FAA said. The United States Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said in an article on X social media that FAA investigators were on the way to Toronto and that he was working with his Canadian counterparts to help the investigation.
The accident occurs weeks after an outdoor deadly collision in January at Washington DC Reagan International Airport, which killed 64 people on a regional Jet of American Airlines and three other people aboard an Army helicopter Black Hawk.
The FAA has recently been struck by dismissals led by President Donald Trump and the Elon Musk government ministry, with several hundred air traffic controllers receiving dismissal notices during the weekend.
