The Republicans based their entire midterm election strategy on massive tax cuts for the rich and corporations, disguised as no tax on tips and no tax on Social Security.
Trump and his party thought they could fool the American people, but experts warned them, even before passing the tax cuts, that relying on tax returns as a campaign strategy was going to fail, because high inflation would eat up any tax increase people might receive.

The war in Iran has sent gas prices to their highest level in five years, and the increase has been so rapid that comparisons are being made to the energy crisis of the 1970s.
The result is that voters see no tax on tips and respond with a resounding “So what?” No Social Security tax was collected. “Who cares?”
Something even worse than a failed campaign strategy is unfolding.
The American people reject the Republican Party’s economic ideology on taxes.
The latest Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll reveals:
Americans disapprove of his handling of the situation with Iran by 66 percent to 33 percent. His rating on the economy fell seven points, to 34 percent, as gas prices soared. His approval rating on inflation fell five points during that period, to 27 percent, and his lowest rating was on perceptions of his handling of the cost of living in general, with 23 percent approving to 76 percent disapproving.
The entire Republican midterm campaign was supposed to be about immigration and taxes. Trump is negative on both issues.
When it comes to taxes, only 38% of Americans approve of how the president has handled taxes. Sixty-one percent of those surveyed disapprove. This represents a net approval rating of (-23) on taxes.
The strong disapproval of taxes indicates that the American people are not fooled by the tax cuts for the rich and crumbs for everyone else approach that Republicans have used for nearly half a century.
The scam no longer works. Many Americans now understand that the only thing that impacts them is higher prices.
By taking Republican economic ideology to the extreme, Trump has done the American people a favor. He opened their eyes to the fraud behind the Republican tax cut calculations.
