On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press briefing to try to blame Democrats and the left for the political violence.

Leavitt called the left a cult of hate:
The left’s cult of hatred against the president and all those who support and work for him has left many people injured and killed, and it almost did. Again, this weekend, when you read this shooter’s manifesto, ask yourself how this near-assassin’s rhetoric is different from what you read on social media and hear every day on various forums.
The answer, if you are honest with yourself, is that there is no difference. Much of the would-be assassin’s manifesto is indistinguishable from the words we hear daily from so many people.
For example, as the First Lady of the United States noted this morning, just two days before the shooting, Jimmy Kimmel, ABC late night host disgustingly called First Lady Melania Trump a future widow. Who in their right mind said a woman would be thrilled about the potential murder of her beloved husband. And having experienced what I did with the First Lady on Saturday evening, I can tell you that she was anything but that. This kind of rhetoric about the President, the First Lady and his supporters is completely deranged. And it’s incredible that the American people consume it night after night.
As President Trump said Saturday evening on this platform, we Americans must recommit to resolving our differences peacefully and uniting around the shared values that make our country great. The deranged lies and smears against the president. His family, his supporters, have led crazy people to believe crazy things, and they are inspired to commit violence because of those words. This has to stop.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries responded at his own news conference by tearing into Leavitt.
Jeffries said:
I think that’s what interests me, as you pointed out. Did the so-called White House Press Secretary, who is a disgrace, she is a stone cold liar, have the nerve to stand up there and read talking points, criticizing the statements, all taken out of context, that the Democrats made and had not a word to say about anything the MAGA extremists said or did, including providing aid and comfort to the violent insurrectionists here in this capital on January 6, who brutally beat police officers.
