Eric Swalwell is 45 years old, and in the near future there is a good chance that he will attempt to make a political comeback. That’s the only explanation I can think of for Swalwell’s resignation statement, which contained enough ambiguity and blame from others to suggest he’s going to try to reemerge after thinking the scandal has passed.
Here is Swalwell’s resignation statement:

Swalwell talks about taking responsibility, but he gives no indication that he thinks he did anything wrong. Sexual misconduct and sexual assault are not wrong. These are choices that hurt and harm women. A mistake is something that was not expected. What Swalwell did was make a choice.

Swalwell maintains he did not commit rape or criminal sexual assault. These are acts he allegedly committed. We hope that the criminal investigation can reveal the facts.
Former Rep. Swalwell’s complaints about the expulsion vote reveal that the threat to expel him from Congress is the reason he is resigning. Swalwell had no awareness or moral awakening. He knew enough Democrats would vote to expel him, so resignation was his only option.
House Democratic leaders did not defend him and immediately issued a statement after the allegations surfaced, calling on him to end his campaign for governor of California.
Even Swalwell’s friends called for his expulsion.
I believe that a person who has changed or rehabilitated deserves a second chance, but Swalwell shows that it would have been a mistake for House Democrats to delay the expulsion vote. Swalwell has not taken full responsibility and released a statement that should be about apologizing to the people he hurt, including the alleged victims, who are never mentioned, by filing a due process complaint.
Eric Swalwell is a lawyer. He knows there is no right to due process in Congress. The fact that Swalwell brought up due process suggests that he will follow the lead of Donald Trump and claim that he was politically targeted and disenfranchised.
Women make up the majority of the Democratic Party and the backbone of the party.
Eric Swalwell showed that he still only thinks of himself by resigning from Congress, which is why there should be no place for Swalwell in the Democratic Party, now or in the future.
