Donald Trump has a habit of cheating to make it look like he’s winning when he’s actually losing. From fake right-wing polls to fabricated investment figures, Trump has consistently managed to create the illusion of success instead of actually succeeding.
Super Bowl weekend is one of the slowest movie weekends of the year. The film industry participates in Super Bowl weekend and focuses on using the Super Bowl to promote summer blockbusters and future releases.
None of that stopped Jeff Bezos from pushing Melania into hundreds more theaters as the film spent the weekend playing on 2,000 screens nationwide, leading to a 67% box office decline.
Politico reported:
Amazon MGM’s “Melania” added 300 theaters in its second weekend but fell sharply to $2.4 million in ticket sales, down 67% from its much-discussed debut. The rapid slowdown means the Brett Ratner-directed documentary is likely heading into flop territory given its high price tag. Amazon MGM paid $40 million for the rights to the film, plus about $35 million to market it.
The North American total for “Melania” is $13.4 million. Amazon MGM has not released international figures, although they are expected to be paltry.
Kevin Wilson, the studio’s head of domestic distribution, said the film’s box office performance “is a critical early moment that validates our overall distribution strategy, building awareness, engagement and building momentum ahead of the film’s eventual debut on Prime Video.”
