In a democracy where the federal government is working properly, which Donald Trump has just done on Fox News should never have happened.
Democratic governments are supposed to have a separation of powers. Federal police are independent of the president and the executive power. The police should be exempt from political influence to ensure independence.
Like many Americans are concerned about the creation of a private police and the use of the National Guard for the Civil Servises in American cities, which is the most public and most frontal example of the way in which the application of laws has been politicized at the federal level, there are more subtle concentrations and supporters of the formerly independent parties of the government and too many Americans and the consumer media now accept as normal.
Donald Trump has changed the way presidents interact with the press when he made an intentional decision to limit his interviews to mainly friendly conservative media like Fox News and Newsmax.
The president would no longer be theoretically available for all media to sit for interviews or answer questions. Trump would be on friendly platforms where he can control the discussion.
Trump has created a distinct system where it is not challenged by the press and, by extension, not responsible for the American people. In his second mandate, he expanded this system to include sympathetic conservative interrogators in the White House press pool. It was estimated that up to half of the Journalists in the White House covering Trump one day given could be partisan conservative media.
The presidency has been reduced to speaking only one group of supporters, and this weakening of responsibility, carried out by the destruction of independence within the media and the federal application, was exposed while Trump announced that the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s shooting was in detention on Fox News.
