Trump’s request for a new census is a distraction that will fail

Donald Trump has already tried this. During his first mandate, Trump demanded a new census which would not illegally count immigrants who are in the country.

Trump’s second term fails, the president trotted his dog check against the Brown by demanding a new census.

Trump posted on Truth Social:

I asked our Ministry of Commerce immediately starting to work on a new very precise census based on modern facts and figures and, above all, using the results and information obtained from the 2024 presidential election. The people who are illegally in our country will not be counted in the census. Thank you for your attention to this question!

It takes years of planning and endowment to make a new census. Trump cannot order one, and it seems like magic.

Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) highlighted the biggest problem:

It is completely unconstitutional. The Constitution requires a census every ten years which count each person in the country, whatever their status of citizenship. When Trump tried to do so in 2020, the courts rejected him.

Pew Research has examined what a new census that does not count in the country would look like and how it would have an impact on the elections, and their answer was that it would have a minimum impact.
