THE Las Vegas sphere Will soon project “The Wizard of Oz” from 1939 in the first cinematographic experience of the immersive event.

The project places viewers in the world of Oz using the 160,000 square feet wrapped in the Sphere. The film will play in 16K resolution with a complete space audio using 167,000 lectures and haptic seats, according to a press release in June.

In partnership with Google Cloud, the engineers used the “Surfer” AI to extend the original film frames to adapt to the immersive space, according to a press release in April.

“Our standard on this was not at all to modify the film, but to try to bring you as if you were in the studio when it was shot,” said James Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment, at CBS on Sunday morning.

Glenn Derry, executive vice-president of MSG Ventures and artist of visual effects, is in charge of 4D effects, such as movement, wind, water and smell, to give the public the impression of being in Oz, reported CBS. Derry told CBS on Sunday morning that his team used technology to provide fog and wind effects to imitate the tornadoes that are seen in the film.

The “The Wizard of Oz” experience opens to the public on August 28.

The sphere of Las Vegas opened its doors in September 2023 and has a capacity of around 20,000. According to Sphere Entertainment, around 10,000 of the arena seats have haptic technology. The place has drawn attention since its opening for impressive live concerts and unique visuals.
