Sandwich Chain Subway called on the former manager of Burger King, Jonathan Fitzpatrick, as the last CEO of the company, from July 28.

Monday’s announcement follows a search for several months of the successor to former CEO John Chidsey. Chidsey retired at the end of 2024 after five years with the company. His mandate included the sale of $ 9.6 billion in the family’s family chain to the investment company Roark Capital in 2023.

Fitzpatrick joins Subway after spending more than 12 years leading another company supported by Roark, Driven Brands, a car service provider. Before the motivated brands, he was responsible for the brand and operations of Burger King after having occupied other roles through the activities of the channel. Fitzpatrick has left the brands motivated earlier this year.

Chidsey CV also included time at Burger King. A decade before joining Subway, Chidsey led Burger King to his acquisition by 3g capital, who finally formed Restaurant Brands International.

The change in leadership occurs during the difficult period for fast food restaurants. Consumers do not dine so often, and when they do it, they are looking for offers. These discounts can weigh on the already thin beneficiaries of restaurants.

The metro itself is delivered with its own set of challenges. With more than 19,500 locations, it is the largest chain of American restaurants by many stores, but competition from fast restaurants and other sandwiches has eroded its market share in the past 15 years.

Last year, its sales dropped by 3.8%, according to Technomic data.
