The British aerospace and defense company Rolls-Royce announced that it was investing $ 75 million to extend its engine manufacturing plant in Aiken, South Carolina.
Investment will increase the production of diesel engines in the 4000 MTU series, which are used in backup systems for data centers and other critical infrastructures.
“Increased investment is strengthening our ability to serve our American customers – in particular in the industry of the fast -growing American data center,” said Adam Wood, director general of the Rolls -Royce power systems division in America, in a press release on Tuesday.
The company said expansion would create 60 new jobs, increase capacities and strengthen the American industrial presence of Rolls-Royce.
This decision also reflects the passage of Rolls-Royce to energy and electricity systems, beyond its traditional aerospace concentration.
Rolls-Royce said that it machines additional components of the MTU 4000 series in the United States as part of the investment. The company is currently producing many components in Germany and sends them to the United States as finished goods.
“We are proud to support America’s growing demand for reliable and national energy systems that strengthen the energy independence and security in our country,” said Adam Riddle, CEO of North America.
This is the second major announcement in two days for the company.
On Monday, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic announced a partnership to collaborate on small modular reactors, according to Reuters.
Rolls-Royce SMRS could export up to six reactors to the Czech Republic under the agreement.
The Southern Carolina site should become a hub for the North American electrical systems strategy in Rolls-Royce. The first phase of expansion will start in the first quarter of 2026 and production will begin in July 2027.
