Hong Kong police arrested the father and brother of the US-based activist Anna Kwok, local media reported on Friday.
Police said they had arrested two men aged 35 and 68 on Wednesday, suspecting them of raping national security and crimes by “trying to directly or indirectly manage fugitives’ funds.” They did not identify men.
The local media said that the police had discovered that Kwok’s father, Kwok Yin-Sang, had traveled abroad to meet her. After his return to Hong Kong, he tried to withdraw nearly US $ 14,000 from his daughter’s life and accident insurance policies, police said.
Kwok’s brother worked in an insurance company, according to the SingleAnd may have used his knowledge of the industry to help manage the finances of his sister.
Kwok’s father was denied the surety during the release of his brother, Reuters reported. The family lawyer could not be joined to comment, said the news agency.
Anna Kwok is the executive director of the Washington -based political lobbying group, the Hong Kong Democracy Council. Hong Kong authorities have offered a bonus of $ 1 million HK (US $ 128,000) for their capture, accusing it of “collusion with foreign forces” under the national security law, which prohibits criticism from the authorities.
Kwok’s parents and two brothers were arrested in August from last year and wondered if they had contacts or financial relations with her.
Kwok wrote on Facebook at the time that his family had never helped her and was probably not aware of the nature of his work. She said that the government of Hong Kong wanted to silence her by harassing her family, but she would not give up trying to open the way for the freedom and self -determination of Hong Kong.
