Myanmar sent workers to Russia for the first time with 24 qualified construction employees leaving on Wednesday, the Military Government of Myanmar said after the head of the junta met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for talks.

Principal general min aung hlaing, flew to Moscow Monday For his first official visit with Putin. The Russian media broadcast the video of the two hugs during their meeting.

The military leader of Myanmar, during his fourth visit to Russia since he ousted a civil government during a coup in 2021, thanked Putin for having delivered six fighter planes to the junta, which was involved in a civil war.

Putin thanked the head of Myanmar for giving Russia six elephants last year, the media reported. In talks on Tuesday, the Military Junta of Myanmar predicted Possible victory of Russia On Ukraine in the three -year war.

The Ministry of Military Information said in a statement that the first 24 workers had left for Russia as part of a memorandum of understanding which was still being developed.

“The two countries are impatiently awaiting their friendship and sending workers,” said the ministry.

The ministry has not said how many workers could follow the first batch of 24 or the industries in which they could be employed.

A Myanmar employment manager said in December that the military government was preparing to send workers To Russia at his request, to compensate for a shortage of foreign workers in agriculture and in manufacturing in the midst of his war with Ukraine.

Charles Myo Thant, president of the Myanmar Overseas Employment Association Agencies, said they would occupy jobs in agriculture, cattle, construction and factories, and they will have to learn Russian.

Myanmar has sent workers abroad for years to places like Thailand and Singapore under government agreements. Many myanmar people have also moved abroad to seek work, especially since the 2021 coup, who has seriously undermined the economy.

But Junta’s authorities recently imposed restrictions on people who go abroad to work because he seeks to fulfill the ranks of his armed forces by conscription.

Military ages have been prohibited from asking for work abroad through employment agencies, and those authorized to go to work have been informed that they could be ordered to serve in the army.

A Labor activist based in the city of Yangon questioned the Russian agreement.

“We cannot go to other countries, so why can we go to Russia?” said the activist, who refused to be identified for security reasons.

He also wondered what type of work they would do, saying hard work or without training possibilities would not be popular.

Russia was a regular supplier of weapons for the Myanmar army and its media reported that Min Aung Hlaing also discussed cooperation in “all regions of the defense sector” in talks with Russian defense officials.

The chief of the Junta went from Moscow to the city of Saint Petersburg and Friday, he was to go to the Bélarus at the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko, said the Myanmar army.

The political analyst that Soe Naing said that Min’s trip Aung Hlaing seemed to ensure security “under the aegis of the Russian Empire”.

“Going to Bélarus lays the basics of security,” he said.
