While some Democrats are calling for Trump’s impeachment this year, House Democrats, even those who support a third Trump impeachment, know it won’t happen this year.
Democrats don’t control the House, which means they don’t have the votes. An impeachment campaign fully supported by Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives would look bad because the math doesn’t add up.

There’s also the practical reason why Donald Trump is busy setting himself and his party on fire every day right now. A doomed impeachment attempt would give Trump the distraction he wants and unify his party ahead of the midterm elections.
Pursuing impeachment now would also turn off voters who have solidly demonstrated in dozens of special elections that they are willing to vote for Democrats on the basis of the economy, affordability and the fact that Trump and his party have made everything they have touched worse since returning to office.
Impeaching Trump won’t do anything even if Democrats get the votes, but there is one strategy that has proven very effective for the House minority.

The first call for Hegseth’s impeachment for war crimes came in December 2025. The war in Iran increased the urgency of getting Hegseth out of the Pentagon. Articles of impeachment will be filed next week.
