Trump’s revenge campaign against Letitia James crashed and burned

Donald Trump came to power for the second time with a plan to get revenge on anyone who tried to hold him accountable.

Trump filled the DOJ with loyalists and attempted to convert the nation’s top federal law enforcement agencies into his personal law firm that he intended to use for revenge.

What Trump attempted to do is a blatant abuse of power.

It used to be virtually unheard of for the Justice Department to take a case to a grand jury and come away empty-handed, but what was unprecedented has become increasingly the norm under Donald Trump.

The president attempted to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James for mortgage fraud because James was able to secure 34 fraud convictions against Trump and his business in New York.

James’ first indictment was thrown out of court, so the DOJ tried again, and this time couldn’t get past the grand jury stage.

Politico reported:

The Justice Department again failed to indict New York Attorney General James on Thursday — for the second time in as many weeks it is seeking to revive a mortgage fraud case against her, as President Donald Trump pushes to prosecute his political opponents.

A grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, rejected federal prosecutors’ latest attempt to indict James, according to a person familiar with the proceedings who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the case.

For those counting, that represents one dismissed case and two failed attempts to indict Trump’s DOJ.
