Actions of Kenvue Friday, dropped by more than 10% after a report according to which the secretary of health and social services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will probably link autism to the use of the analgesics of the Tylenol company in pregnant women.
HHS will publish the report that could establish this link this month, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
This report also suggests that a drug derived from Folate – a soluble vitamin in water – can be used to treat symptoms of development disorder in some people, according to the review.
In a statement, an HHS spokesman said: “We use standard science to go to the bottom of the unprecedented increase in American autism rates”.
“Until we published the final report, all the claims on its content is nothing more than speculation,” they added.
Tylenol could be the latest treatment widely used and accepted that Kennedy has undermined HHS head, which oversees federal health agencies that regulate drugs and other therapies. Kennedy has also taken measures to modify vaccine policy in the United States and has amplified false claims on safe and effective shots that use mRNA technology.
Kennedy made the disorder a key objective of the HHS, engaging in April that the agency “knows what caused the autism epidemic” by September and will eliminate the exhibitions. He also said this month that the agency had launched a “massive test and research effort” involving hundreds of scientists around the world who will determine the cause.
In a statement, Kenvue said he had “permanently assessed science and [continues] To believe that there is no causal link “between the use of acetaminophen, the generic name of Tylenol, during pregnancy and autism.
The company added that the Food and Drug Administration and the main medical organizations “agree on the safety” of the drug, its use during pregnancy and the information provided on the Tylenol label.
The FDA website indicates that the agency has not found any “clear evidence” that the appropriate use of acetaminophen during pregnancy causes “an unfavorable pregnancy, a birth, neuro -saviors or developmental results”. But the FDA said that it advised pregnant women to speak with their health care providers before using over -the -counter medicines.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists argues that acetaminophen is safe during pregnancy when taken as indicated and after consulting a health care provider.
Some previous studies have suggested that the drug has risks for fetal development, and some parents have brought prosecution by affirming that they gave birth to autistic children after having used it.
But a federal judge of Manhattan judged in 2023 that some of these proceedings lacked scientific evidence and put the dispute more at the end in 2024. Some research also found no association between the use of acetaminophen and autism.
Friday, in a note, the analyst of BNP Paribas, Navann Ty [between the drug and autism] is high, in particular since the dispute previously concluded in favor of Kenvue. “”
