Satellite imagery shows a warship in North Korea which overthrew during its launch last month is being repaired in Drydock near the Russian and Chinese borders.

An image of Maxar Technologies taken on Sunday shows the naval destroyer of 5,000 tonnes at the Quai de Raijin, which is in a special economic zone in the northeast tip of the country.

The warship fell laterally in the sea when it launched the Chongjin shipyard on May 21, leaving it partially overwhelmed and attached the anger of leader Kim Jong one, who called him “serious and unacceptable accident” and a “serious criminal act”.

To the surprise of most foreign observers, North Korea managed not only to straighten the warship last week, but to transport 45 miles (72 kilometers) at the top of the coast to Rajin, also known as Rason.

This May 24, 2025, the satellite image shows a North Korean warship covered with a blue tarpaulin after an accident during its launch at the shipyard, in Chongjin, North Korea.

The Core Corean Corean press agency said that the ship was relaunched last Thursday. Experts will examine the shell for the next stage of the restorations, to be carried out at the Rajin shipyard for 7 to 10 days, depending on the report.

Kim had attended the sloppy launch on May 21, which put a breach in the ambitions of North Korea to build a navy of blue water. He had demanded that the ship be fully restored before a key meeting of the ruling party later this month.

State media reported on May 25 that several Chongjin shipyard had been arrested for the failure of the launch.
