On the one hand, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) that he had to drop to Trump on the CR because a government closure would have been much worse for the country, but on the other hand, Schumer also intends to fight Trump and make him the fastest lame duck in history.

He hurts average people from all points of view. And we are – thanks to surveillance hearings, we exhibit what it does, through the courts, what I mentioned, we have had a real success, by legislation and by the organization in all the districts of the country so that I believe, that – because the Republicans are already nervous. You know, many of them said: “Do not hold the town hall meetings.” I believe that in 2026, the Republicans in the House and the Senate will feel as if they are rats on a flowing ship because we have gone so much after Trump and all the horrible things he does. And they will know it, see it, hate it and act on it.

Let me ask you questions about something that the former lecturer of the Chamber, Nancy Pelosi, said your decision on Tuesday. She said, quotes: “I do not give anything for nothing for nothing. And I think that’s what happened the other day.” Do you recognize that the Democrats have not obtained anything in this fight, the leader Schumer?
Senable Chuck Schumer:
Well, what we got, at the end of the day, is to avoid the horror of a stop. There was no lever that we could have – we could have asked for things, they could simply say no. And because they control – let’s not forget, they control the room and the Senate.
Senator Schumer also said that a republican senator near Trump told him that the White House planned to keep the government closed for 6 to 9 months until federal workers were dismissed and that they could close the programs.
Schumer did not name this republican senator and he has no idea if it was true. Given how the Trump administration lies, nothing should be supposed as a fact, but that was enough to frighten Schumer.
It brings us to the big problem. How can Democrats trust Schumer to fight Donald Trump when he has already given way to Trump?
I have no doubt that Schumer wants to make Trump a lame duck, but if he wants to be afraid by the threats, the Democrats will not have a leg to stand.
Chuck Schumer will have the chance to prove that he is ready to combat the debt ceiling and the government’s financing bill in September.
Democrats will have to take risks to beat Trump, and they cannot have leadership that was going to move.
